About

Black Cockatoo textiles is a result of much travel and meeting creative people who are striving to keep their traditional crafts alive in a fast changing world. Buying directly from Artisans is one of the joys of my travels.

Many pieces have generations of history behind their making, others such as the up-cycled bags are a unique solution for re-using waste and providing work for marginalised families.

I look for great designs and for quality workmanship. I care deeply about buying ethically and supporting traditional craftsmen and women. I travel regularly to source these special pieces, and take the time to make real connections with the people I meet. The pieces sourced represent a long history of skills in block printing, hand weaving, natural dyes, appliqué cut work and embroidery. You will find luxurious one-off pieces, as well as quality items for everyday. Up-cycled bags and hand stitched quilts from craftspeople in the Kachchh and Gujarat regions of India, block printed scarves, sarongs and tablecloths from Rajasthan, Ikat bed covers and sarongs from Orissa, and some very special, hand picked pieces found off the beaten track.

These are pieces made with pride and branded with the heart of the craftsmen and women who make them.

Take a look, you are sure to find something to treasure.
